Frederick scores twice in 34-17 win over Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Anthony Frederick of the Bryant University football team hauled in two touchdowns and racked up 109 yards in the Bulldogs 34-17 road win over Marist tonight.

Zevi Eckhaus threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 57 yards. Fabrice Mukendi and Daniel Adeboboye each reached the end zone and combined for 86 yards on the ground.

Key Moment

  • The Red Foxes made it a one-score game at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs responded by scoring 10 points in the fourth and holding Marist to zero.

How it Happened

  • Bryant scored first on a nine-play 56-yard drive that was capped off by a 2-yard Adeboboye touchdown. Young's 33-yard return gave the Bulldogs good field position to start. The Black and Gold converted three third downs, including a pass interference in the endzone. Adeboboye had five carries for 23 yards on the drive.
  • The Bulldogs stopped Marist on 4th and two and then recorded a five-play 59-yard scoring drive. Eckhaus and Gary Cooper hooked up on a 26-yard completion to get the drive going Eckhaus followed that up with a 24-yard pass to Landon Ruggieri. This put Bryant on the two-yard line, which set up Mukendi for the two-yard touchdown run.
  • The Black and Gold added three more points on a Luke Samperi 41-yard field goal. Bryant started the drive on their own 28-yard line. A 14-yard rush by Shai Young on 2nd and eight got the drive started. That was followed by a 10-yard pass to Jihad Edmond on 4th and three, and a 15 yard QB run by Eckhaus to get the Bulldogs into field goal range.
  • Marist responded with a 14 play 74-yard drive to put up seven points before the half. Brabham connected with Johnson for an 11-yard touchdown.
  • The Red Foxes received the ball at the start of the second half and scored a touchdown on a 14-yard pass to Menders. The Bulldogs had a stop on 3rd and nine, but it was negated by a personal foul penalty.
  • Bryant responded with a 10 play 57-yard touchdown drive of their own. Eckhaus got a 14-yard gain on 3rd and seven to keep the drive moving. Three plays later the Black and Gold converted on 4th and two with a 10-yard pass to Frederick. Frederick then completed the drive with a 12-yard touchdown catch in the right corner of the endzone.
  • Before the end of the third quarter, Marist was driving. The Red Foxes made it to the Bryant 14-yard line before Otis Jackson III and Jayvis Rayside came up with pass deflections to force the Marist field goal.
  • The Black and Gold scored their final touchdown of the game on a 13 play 68-yard drive. Eckhaus went 6-for-6 marching the Bulldogs down the field. The drive was capped off by an 18-yard dime to Frederick for his second score of the game.
  • Late in the fourth quarter, Colin Elliott intercepted the football and gave the Bulldogs good field position on the Marist side of the field. A false start penalty pushed the Bulldogs back and forced them into a 33-yard field goal, which Samperi converted. This was the final score of the game.

Game Notes

  • Frederick had the first two-score game of his career.
  • Frederick also became just the 10th player in program history to record 10+ receptions.
  • The 100-yard receiving game was the second of his career and is the first 100-yard receiving game by a Bryant receiver since Sept. 21, 2019.
  • Frederick is also just the third player (Jordan Harris, Jean Constant) with 10+ catches, 100+ receiving yards and 2+ TDs in a game.
  • Eckhaus eclipsed 200 passing yards for the first time in his career.
  • The 232 passing yards by Eckhaus are the most by a true freshman QB in program history.
  • The Bulldogs produced 30 plus points for the first time this season and the first time since Sept. 21, 2019.
