Bryant returns to gridiron, visits CCSU on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team returns to the field this weekend, traveling to New Britain, Connecticut, to face Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 12:05 p.m.

Saturday's game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN3 as part of the #NECFB on ESPN3.

Series History

  • CCSU owns an 8-4 lead in the all-time series between the two programs. 
  • The Blue Devils have won each of the last three meetings, holding Bryant to just 14 points in all three games.
  • Two of Bryant's four wins in the series have come in New Britain.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • Bryant returns to the gridiron after its lone bye week of the year. The Bulldogs are 5-3 overall and 3-1 in NEC play.
  • Last time out, Bryant earned a 31-10 victory over Wagner College. The Bulldogs trailed 10-3 but scored the game's final 28 points. 
  • Bryant has trailed at some point in all three of its NEC victories this year.
  • The Black and Gold are also tied for first place in the NEC standings with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis U. Bryant has beat both teams.
  • Zevi Eckhaus was one of 22 players named to the initial Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List. The award is given to the top freshman player in the FCS. 
  • He's been named the NEC Rookie of the Week for five-straight weeks, throwing for 200+ yards and 2+ TDs in all five games.
  • On the year, Eckhaus is 166-of-268 (61.9%) for 1,605 yards, 13 TDs and just two interceptions. 
  • Fellow freshman Fabrice Mukendi is one of the league's top rushers, averaging a league-best 5.8 yards per carry. He has 517 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
  • David Zorrilla has posted 29 catches for 365 yards and a TD over his last four games. 
  • Joe Andreessen and Ryan Saddler have combined for 130.0 tackles on the year and are ranked second and third in the NEC in tackles.
  • Andreessen leads the NEC with three interceptions after posting Bryant's first multi-interception game since 2018 last time out at Wagner.  

A bit about the Blue Devils

  • CCSU enters the weekend at 2-6 overall and 2-2 in NEC play. The Blue Devils are coming off a season-high 49-point performance at Merrimack.
  • Romelo Williams has thrown for 1,284 yards and nine TDs, while Tyshaun James has 30 catches for 414 yards and three scores.
