Bryant hosts LIU on Saturday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team returns home for the first time in nearly a month when it welcomes Long Island University to Beirne Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

Bryant will honor its senior class prior to the game.

Series History

  • Bryant and LIU will be meeting for the third time as Division I opponents. They have split the two meetings.
  • In the spring, LIU earned a 24-19 victory over the Black and Gold. 
  • The two teams met seven times as Division II opponents. 

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is coming off a 30-15 loss at Central Connecticut last Saturday. The Bulldogs are 5-4 overall and 3-2 in NEC play.
  • Bryant is in second place in the NEC standings, a game behind Sacred Heart. 
  • Bryant has trailed at some point in all three of its NEC victories this year.
  • Zevi Eckhaus was one of 22 players named to the initial Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List. The award is given to the top freshman player in the FCS. 
  • Eckhaus has thrown for 1,719 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. He's thrown at least two TDs in each of his last six games. 
  • Fellow freshman Fabrice Mukendi is one of the league's top rushers, averaging a league-best 5.8 yards per carry. He has 527 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
  • David Zorrilla has posted 35 catches for 419 yards and a TD on the year. He's averaging 4.4 receptions per game.  
  • Landon Ruggieri posted his first-career multi-TD game at CCSU and is now second on the team with four TD receptions. 
  • Ryan Saddler and Joe Andreessen have combined for 159.0 tackles on the year and are ranked first and third in the NEC in tackles.
  • Andreessen leads the NEC with three interceptions after posting Bryant's first multi-interception game since 2018 last time out at Wagner.
  • Saddler leads the NEC in tackles with 85, averaging 9.4 per game. He had a career-high 15 tackles at CCSU last Saturday.  

A bit about the Sharks

  • LIU enters the week at 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the NEC. The Sharks fell to Duquesne last weekend, 34-28.
  • Camden Orth threw for 348 yards last week and is averaging 165 per game. 
  • Jonathan DeBique is one of the league's top rushers, while Owen Glascoe, Derick Eugene and Tosin Oyekanmi all have 20+ receptions.
