Eckhaus named Big South Offensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE - Bryant University football sophomore quarterback Zevi Eckhaus has been named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Eckhaus completed 18-of-22 passes for 243 yards and finished with 279 yards of total offense in the Bulldogs' 38-37 overtime loss at FBS member Florida International.

The Culver City, Calif., native was his best in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading the Black and Gold on three-straight scoring drives that nearly resulted in an upset victory. Eckhaus capped a six-play, 73-yard drive with a one-yard TD run to give Bryant 23-20 lead with 6:23 remaining. He followed that by marching the Bulldogs down the field for a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with an Ishod Byarm one-yard TD run to make it 30-27. In overtime, Eckhaus connected with Anthony Frederick for a 25-yard touchdown on the first play to give the Bulldogs a 37-30 lead.

Bryant is back in action this weekend when it welcomes Rhode Island for its home opener on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m.
