Bulldogs travel to Merrimack, host Lafayette

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team begins its Northeast Conference schedule with the conference's newest member Merrimack on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting Lafayette on Sunday.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Friday marks the first time that the two teams will meet as Division I opponents.
  • The last time the two teams met was in Bryant's Division II era in 2007 when Bryant topped Merrimack, 2-1. The Bulldogs hold the all-time series record, 6-2.

A BIT ABOUT THE WARRIORS

  • The Warriors post a 1-7 overall record this season after notching their first win of the season over Maine, 2-1.
  • Merrimack netted five goals this season as freshman Catherine Henaire leads the squad with two. Both of Henaire's goals were scored in Merrimack's 3-2 loss against Davidson.
  • Katharina Ohmen is the primary goalkeeper for the Warriors. Ohmen stopped 66 in the cage as she posts a .776 save percentage and a goals-against-average of 3.20.
  • Megan Shea leads Merrimack in her third season as head coach.

A BIT ABOUT THE LEOPARDS

  • The Leopards look to build off a two-game winning streak when they meet with Patriot League foe Boston University on Friday before taking on the Bulldogs.
  • Lafayette enters the weekend after topping #25 Monmouth, 2-1, in double overtime, marking the first time the Leopards have beaten a ranked opponent since 2016.
  • Senior Sam Di Maio and sophomore Molly McAndrew lead Lafayette with four goals on the season. McAndrew edges out Di Maio as the team's point leader with nine after notching an assist against Holy Cross.
  • Senior Sarah Park played and started in all 10 games for the Leopards as she posts 43 saves to go with a .705 save percentage and 1.66 goals-against-average.
  • Jennifer Stone leads Lafayette in her seventh season.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Freshman Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa) had a breakout week for the Black and Gold as she notched her first NEC Rookie of the Week honor after debuting as No. 5 on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 plays with a game-tying goal at Holy Cross. Rauff followed up with a game-winning goal against Lehigh to help Bryant pick up its first win of 2019.
  • Junior Aisling Madden (Leeds, Yorkshire, England) netted her first collegiate goal to even the score against Lehigh. Madden leads the team with 20 shots as she ranks sixth in the conference.
  • Freshman Isa Oldekamp (Rotterdam, Netherlands) ranks fourth in the country, second in the NEC, with three defensive saves.
  • Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) ranks third in the conference with 58 saves.
