Bulldogs fall to Merrimack, 2-1, in double overtime

BOSTON, Mass. – In the conference opener, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to Merrimack, 2-1, in double overtime.

Freshman Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa) netted her third collegiate goal in the second quarter to give Bryant its initial lead.

 "We played really well and had many opportunities that we just couldn't convert. But there were plenty of positives to take away from tonight's game."

KEY MOMENT

• Less than a minute into the second overtime, Merrimack fired the ball into the cage for the game-winning goal.

SCORING SUMMARY

• 26' – Rauff picked up her third goal of the season to give the Bulldogs the lead in the second quarter, 1-0.
• 44' – During Merrimack's first penalty corner of the game, Wilma Neumann fired a shot at Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) who deflected the ball away from the goal. Morgan Chase picked up the deflection and tapped it in to even the score, 1-1.
• 70' – Merrimack's Jessica Palmer strikes the ball into the back of the cage just 55 seconds into the second overtime to give the Warriors the win, 2-1.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

• Rauff netted her third collegiate goal and posted four shots that were all on target.
• Junior Aisling Madden (Leeds, Yorkshire, England) led the Black and Gold with five shots and three on frame.
• Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.), Isa Oldekamp (Rotterdam, Netherlands), and Eva Bazen (The Hague, Netherlands) each fired three shots while Kylie Nelson and Madison Demand tallied two.
• Jaarsma stopped three while in between the posts.
• Bryant outshot the Warriors, 22-6, marking the most shots the Bulldogs fired in a game since 2016 when Bryant tallied 33 at LIU Brooklyn.
• Tonight marked the third game this season that the Bulldogs have taken into extra time. 
• The Bulldogs took a season-best eight penalty corners.
• Bryant continues to hold the all-time series record, 6-3.
