Jaarsma tallies career-high in loss at Northeastern

DEDHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) notched a career-best 15 saves as the Bryant University field hockey team fell, 3-1, at Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) netted her third-straight goal this season scoring the lone goal for the Black and Gold.

COACH DE VRIES COMMENTS

"We battled and came back with a good goal," said head coach Joppe de Vries. "We have to get better with our chances that we get against good teams like Northeastern."

KEY MOMENT

  • The Huskies notched back-to-back goals at the start of the fourth quarter as Northeastern took control of the game with a 3-1 margin.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • 36' – Northeastern scored the first goal of the game during a penalty corner play. The Huskies tapped the ball into the net off a rebound, 1-0.
  • 43' – Burdick beat the Huskie's backline and carried the ball into the circle. The junior pulled the keeper out of the net and evened the score, 1-1.
  • 47' – At the start of the fourth quarter, Northeastern fired back-to-back shots at Jaarsma. The sophomore goalkeeper made two consecutive saves, but the Huskies were left open on the far post and were able to get their sticks on the deflection to take the lead, 2-1.
  • 49' – Less than three minutes later, the Huskies widened the margin off another deflection off a penalty corner, 3-1.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Burdick tallied her third-straight goal this afternoon scoring in Bryant's last three matches. She now ranks second on the Bulldog squad behind Taryn Rauff with four.
  • Senior Clare Luttrell (Freehold, N.J.) and freshman Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa) were the only other Bulldogs to take a shot at Northeastern. Luttrell's lone shot was put on target.
  • Jaarsma tallied a career-high 15 saves in net. Her previous career-high of 13 saves was achieved last season at Harvard.
  • The Bulldogs were outshot, 29-2 and did not attempt a penalty corner.
  • Northeastern continues to hold the all-time series record, 3-0.
