Rider blanks Bulldogs, 2-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team was unable to bounce back after two early goals as the Bulldogs fell, 2-0, at Rider on Friday evening.

COACH DE VRIES COMMENTS

"Rider deserved to win," said head coach Joppe de Vries. "The surface didn't help, but if you aren't connecting it doesn't really matter what surface you're playing on. We will come back stronger this Sunday at Bryant."

KEY MOMENT

  • Rider's early goal during the first six minutes of play gave the Broncs the only advantage they needed.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 6' – During the first penalty corner of the game, the Broncs fired a shot at the goal as Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) made the save. Rider's Julia Divorra snuck behind the defense and found the rebound for the first goal of the game, 1-0.
  • 15' – Right before the end of the quarter, Rider attempted another penalty corner. Carly Brosious struck the ball that deflected off a Bryant defender and into the goal, 2-0.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Freshman Eva Bazen (The Hague, Netherlands) took the only shot for the Bulldogs and put it on frame.
  • Jaarsma stopped seven in the cage.
  • Freshman Ellie Morrison (Glendora, Calif.) tallied a defensive save.
  • The Bulldogs were outshot, 19-1, marking the least amount of shots Bryant has attempted all season.
  • The Broncs attempted 14 penalty corners compared to Bryant's one.

Bryant hosts LIU on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. as the Bulldogs celebrate 20 years of field hockey at Alumni Day. Sunday also marks Bryant field hockey's annual Pink Game. The game will be played at the Track & Turf Complex on Bryant's campus for the first time since 2016.
