Vasconcelos '13 named field hockey assistant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head field hockey coach Laura Gebhart announced the addition of alum Brittany Vasconcelos '13 to the coaching staff for the 2020-21 season.

Vasconcelos will serve as an assistant coach and comes to Smithfield after spending the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Brown.

"I'm excited to have Brittany join our coaching staff," Gebhart said. "Since her career here as a student-athlete, Brittany has coached a wide range of levels, which gives her a unique perspective on the game. I feel fortunate to have someone who is passionate about the sport, and also invested in the success of her alma mater."

A 2013 graduate of Bryant, Vasconcelos appeared in 64 career games for the Black and Gold from 2009-12. She finished her career with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Vaconcelos also excelled in the classroom, earning NEC Academic Honor Roll honors all four years.

"I am super excited to be back on campus and working with this incredible group of girls," Vasconcelos said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Laura and with the entire Bulldog community. The future for this program is bright and we are ready to do big things!"

At Brown, Vasconcelos helped the Bears post 12 victories in two seasons. She assisted with practice planning and game management, worked with both field players and goalies and assisted with camps and clinics. 

In addition to her time at Brown, Vasconcelos several levels in the field hockey community. She has served as a head coach in the USA Field Hockey Futures Program since 2016 and as a head coach with Cape Cod Field Hockey since 2017. She also spent one season as an assistant coach at UMass Dartmouth, helping four Corsairs earn All-Little East honors. Vasconcelos started her coaching career as the head coach of Tiverton High in 2014. She posted a 24-12-1 career record, leading Tiverton to a pair of playoff appearances.
