Bryant opens America East play with Vermont, Cal

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team opens America East play this weekend with games against Vermont and Cal. 

Bryant opens the weekend on Friday afternoon in Burlington before hosting the Bears on Sunday at Providence College.

Bryant vs. Vermont

  • Bryant and Vermont will meet for the fifth time in program history and the first as conference foes. 
  • The Catamounts own a 3-1 lead in the all-time series, posting a 4-2 victory over the Black and Gold last year. 
  • Bryant's lone win in the series came in nearly seven years to the day, Sept. 25, 2015.  

Bryant vs. Cal

  • Bryant and Cal will be meeting for the fourth time in program history. 
  • The two teams last met in 2017. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters conference play with a 4-4 overall record. The Bulldogs have won three games in a row, their longest winning streak since 2013. 
  • Bryant's four wins are its most since winning four in 2016. 
  • The Black and Gold have scored 3+ goals in three-straight games for the first time in DI program history. 
  • Brittany Gouws was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week after posting five goals and two assists last weekend. 
  • Gouws leads the Black and Gold with six goals and two assists for 14 points. 
  • Lotte Guitink and Olivia Clarke are tied for second on the team with 10 points. Each have four goals and two assists. 
  • Dieneke Hes has played all but 15 minutes in goal, posting a 2.55 GAA and a .672 save percentage. 

Scouting the Catamounts

  • Vermont comes into the weekend at 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the America East. 
  • The Catamounts earned wins over UC Davis and Stanford to open league play last weekend. 
  • Sophia Drees leads Vermont with four goals and seven assists for 15 points. 

Scouting the Bears

  • Cal is 1-5 overall, dropping games to nationally ranked UNC and Wake Forest last weekend. 
  • The Bears will face Albany on Friday before coming to Providence.
