Martelli voted by peers as one of NEC's top assistants

CHICAGO – Bryant University men's basketball assistant coach Phil Martelli Jr. has been selected by his peers as one of the Northeast Conference's top assistants, according to a poll conducted by Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

Martelli enters his third year on the Bryant staff in 2020-21 and his 18th in coaching following his graduation from Saint Joseph's in 2003. He has helped Niagara and Delaware to NCAA Tournament appearances in his coaching career along with stints at Central Connecticut, Manhattan, Saint Joseph's, and with the Delaware 87ers of the NBA G-League.

The Pennsylvania native has helped guide Bryant's ascent over the last two seasons, as the Bulldogs have risen from three wins prior to the arrival of Martelli, head coach Jared Grasso, and the current staff, to 15 a year ago. In the current staff's two-year tenure, the Bulldogs have put together back-to-back NEC tournament appearances for the third time in the program's Division I history.

"Phil is a future head coach who is a total professional as an assistant coach," said Grasso. "He is organized and has a great rapport with our players. Being a coach's son, Phil is a gym rat who loves being on the floor getting guys better."
