STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Wagner College used an 8-0 run in overtime to pull away and earn an 84-81 victory over the Bryant University men's basketball team in a battle of the top two teams in the Northeast Conference.

Bryant led by as many as 13 points in the first half and by four with 47 seconds left but Wagner had an answer each time. Tied 71-71 with under a minute to play in regulation, Adham Eleeda hit a long three and was fouled, completing a four-point play to give Bryant the lead. The Seahawks, however, turned an offensive rebound into a pair of free throws and then turned a Bryant turnover into a layup. The Bulldogs had one more chance in regulation but a shot at the buzzer fell short.

The Bulldogs were led by the duo of Peter Kiss and Charles Pride. Kiss scored a game-high 27 points, hitting 13-of-14 free throws, while Pride posted his fifth double-double of the year with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Eleeda chipped in seven points and nine rebounds, while Hall Elisias and Greg Calixte combined for 12 points and 16 rebounds before both fouled out.

  • Tied 78-78 in overtime, Wagner six points in less than a minute to grab its largest lead of the night with 1:19 to go.          

How it Happened

  • Bryant used a strong start from beyond the arc to grab an early lead on Thursday night.
  • Pride hit a pair of early threes before Chris Childs and Kiss hit back-to-back threes later in the half. Kiss followed with an and-1 to make it an 8-0 spurt and a 21-14 lead with 12:04 left.
  • Another trifecta from Kiss, this time in transition, pushed the lead to 24-14 with 10:05 to go.
  • Elisias then threw down a thunderous alley-oop jam. Kiss tossed the pass from the top of the key and Elisias took off from just inside the foul line. He caught it at its highest point and dunked it hard.
  • Bryant's lead remained grew to 13, its largest of the night, when Pride converted a layup with 5:57 to go in the half.
  • Wagner pulled itself back in the game from the free throw line but Kiss was able to hit a pair of late free throws and Bryant got a final stop to head into the break with a 37-31 lead.
  • In the second half, Bryant and Wagner traded blows. Bryant held a seven-point lead for the first five minutes before the Seahawks responded. A Raekwon Rogers dunk and an Alex Morales three tied the game at 45 and forced a Bryant timeout with 12:46 to play.
  • It would be tied at 49 when Pride ripped the twine from the left wing.
  • Pride did it again minutes later, swishing a long-range trifecta from the top to make it 59-55 with 7:54 to play.
  • The two teams then went seven-straight possessions without a miss, ending in a Morales three that made it 67-66 Bryant with 4:14 to play.
  • Delonnie Hunt gave Wagner a 69-68 lead with 1:55 to go but Kiss streaked down the court and took the harm and laid it in, converting the three-point play to give Bryant the lead back.
  • Two free throws from Wagner tied the game, setting up Eleeda. Bryant's top three-point shooter chose the perfect time to hit his first three, drilling it from the top and getting fouled.
  • The four-point play came with just 47 seconds left. Wagner, however, was able to erase the deficit and tie the game on a Zaire Williams layup with 29 seconds left.
  • Bryant's final shot at winning the game in regulation was off the mark.
  • In overtime, Bryant grabbed the lead with three free throws. Wagner, however, scored the next eight points.
  • Tyler Brelsford made it a three-point game with a three-point play and Bryant got a stop, getting the ball back with 34 seconds to go.
  • Bryant's final two three-point attempts were both off the mark.

  • Bryant finished 24-of-62 (38.7 percent) from the field, 8-of-29 (27.6 percent) from three and 25-of-29 (86.2 percent) from the line.

  • Kiss led all scorers with 27 on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and a 13-of-14 showing from the line. He added four rebounds and two assists. He played the entire 45 minutes.
  • Pride recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. He was 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-8 from three.
  • Eleeda posted seven points and nine boards, while Elisias had eight points and nine boards. Calixte finished with seven boards.  

Game Notes

  • Bryant is now 11-12 all-time against Wagner. Thursday's loss snapped a six-game winning streak against the Seahawks.    
  • The 25 made free throws are a season high.
  • Kiss posted his 30th double-figure scoring game in 33 outings as a Bulldog. He also scored 20+ points for the fifth time this year and the 18th time in his career.  
  • Kiss is averaging 23.8 ppg over his last four and a league-leading 20.6 on the year.
  • Kiss set a career-high by playing all 45 minutes in the contest. His previous high was 43.
  • Kiss also set career-highs in free throws made and attempts. The 13 made free throws are tied for the second-most in DI program history.
  • Elisias now has 413 career rebounds.
  • Pride recorded his NEC-leading fifth double-double of the year. It was his 11th career double-double.
  • Pride scored 20+ points for the fifth time this year and the ninth time in his career. He now has 38 career double-digit scoring efforts.
  • Pride pushed his career marks to 748 points and 408 rebounds. He becomes the eighth player in DI program history to record 400+ career rebounds, following Elisias, and inches closer to Hunter Ware (771) for 13th place in DI program history for points.
  • Pride also set a career high in minutes with 43.
  • Eleeda set career-highs in rebounds (9) and minutes played (42) on Thursday.

Up Next
Bryant will now have eight days off before its next game. The Bulldogs game on Saturday at FDU was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols in the FDU program. Bryant returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 15 when it hosts Mount St. Mary's in a rematch of last year's NEC Championship.
