Bulldogs tie for fourth in Til Duty is Done Collegiate Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's golf team shot a 297, 10-over par for a second-straight round and remained steady in fourth-place following the second and final day of the Til Duty is Done Collegiate Invitational in Baltic, Conn., finishing with a combined three rounds of 877, 13-over par.

The Bulldogs tied with Hartford and led the three Northeast Conference representatives in the 13-team field. Junior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) led the Bulldogs on the scorecard for a third-consecutive tournament, as he shot a third round of 75, three-over par to conclude the three rounds with an even-par 216 and in ninth place. Junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) jumped up three spots on day three, finishing tied for 13th with a 220, four-over par. After shooting a 143, one-under par over the first two rounds.

Junior John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) dropped eight spots on day three with a 78, finishing the tournament tied for 16th with a 221, five-over par. Senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) had the biggest leap of any golfer on day three, jumping 12 spots on the leader board to give Bryant four top-20 finishers. Buschmann carded a 71, one-under par in the third round and finished tied for 20th with a 222, six-over. He was one of only 10 players in the field of 75 to shoot under par in the third round.

UConn and Rhode Island were situated first and second, respectively, following the first day and that alignment did not change after day three, as the Huskies finished with an 846, 18-under par to win the invitational by 11 strokes. UConn's Eric Dietrich jumped up two spots to take the overall win, shooting a 203, 13-under par across the three rounds.

The Bulldogs return to the very same course that the spring season began, in Daytona Beach, Fla., for the NEC Championship where they will look for a second-straight league title. Golfers will tee off on Saturday, April 30 and play through Monday, May 2.
