Bulldogs in second after first day of NEC Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team shot a 288, even par on day one of the Northeast Conference Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., and sit in second place.

Four Bulldogs finished in the top-20 of the 45-player field, led by junior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) with an opening round 69, three-under par. The reigning NEC Golfer of the Month sits second, three strokes ahead of junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.), who is tied for 10th. Senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) shot a 73, one-over par to sit tied for 12th and classmate Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) shot one stroke behind to card the 18th-best score.

Wagner College holds the overall lead after a first-round 281 (-7). Two Seahawks carded scores in the top three, as Anton Frondelius and Lucas Moreno sit first and third with rounds of 67 (-5) and 70 (-2), respectively.
