Bulldogs wrap up fall slate with head-to-head victory over Brown

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In a dual matchup against intrastate foe Brown University, the Bryant University golf team stood out above its Ivy League rival, winning the head-to-head contest, 5-0-1, Thursday at Wannamoisett Country Club.

Senior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) shot the best round of the day for either side, defeating senior Chad Carlson in commanding fashion, 64-75. His five-under-par finish marked his top round of the fall season. Sophomore Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) also put up a stellar score, topping rookie Kenneth Li by four strokes, 70-74.

The closest contest of the day came between senior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and sophomore Sasha Lobel, as the pair carded equal 71s for the only draw of the day.

Rookies Will Del Biaggio (San Jose, Calif.) and Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) took big wins of their own, the former over junior Kevin Li by four strokes (73-77) and the latter over senior Connor Lynch by six (74-80). Senior John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) rounded out the solid outing for the Bulldogs, defeating sophomore Bryan Hong, 77-81.

The victory wrapped up the fall portion of the Bulldogs' schedule, a slate that saw the Black and Gold earn top-5 finishes in two of their three tournaments and win dual matches against two local rivals. Bryant will return to action in March.
