Brown leads Bulldogs in opening round of Towson Spring Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a one-under par opening round from sophomore Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.), the Bryant University golf team sits tied for seventh in the 22-team field at the Towson Spring Invitational.

Saturday's first round of action saw the Bulldogs card a team score of 301 (+13), 14 strokes behind Day 1 leader Fairleigh Dickinson (287). Elon (288) and host Towson (289) round out the top three entering Sunday's final lap.

Brown's one-under 71 ties the second-year Bulldog for sixth on the individual circuit, while rookie Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) carded a three-over 75 to tie for 31st overall. Senior John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) shot a 77 (+5) and sits tied for 51st, while seniors McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) sit knotted for 66th and 75th with a first-round 78 and 79, respectively.

Freshman William Del Biaggio (San Jose, Calif.) enters Sunday play ranked tied for 10th overall at even par but is playing as an individual.

Elon's Jared Mactas leads the field with a five-under 67 after Saturday's round, with FDU's Nicolas Osorio carding a 68 for second overall. Bethune-Cookman teammates Daniel Brennan and Christian Hovstadius are currently tied for third with three-under 69s.

Play resumes Sunday from Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md.
