McGovern tallies eight points in 16-5 win at Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Redshirt-freshman Logan McGovern (Darien, Conn.) posted a career-best offensive effort with five goals and three assists as the Bryant University men's lacrosse team downed Manhattan, 16-5, Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt-sophomore Jack Aigner (Brighton, Mich.) had one of his best days in Black & Gold at the face-off X, going 19-for-25. Senior Trevor Weingarten (Allendale, N.J.) added a career-high four goals for the Bulldogs.

COACH PRESSLER'S COMMENTS
"I could not be more pleased with how we played team lacrosse for 60 minutes today on the road. I thought our attitude, effort and overall play this afternoon was reflective of we practiced this week. Manhattan is an extremely well-coached and disciplined team. I'm excited for our guys to get our first road win of the year."

KEY MOMENT

  • A 5-0 third quarter extended a three-goal advantage to eight and put the Bulldogs in control.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Marc O'Rourke (Hingham, Mass.) and McGovern scored twice each in the first quarter as the Bulldogs built a 4-2 lead through 15 minutes. Junior Pat Brosnan (South San Francisco, Calif.) assisted on two of the Bryant goals in the opening quarter.
  • Freshman Kevin Groeninger (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) assisted on a man-up goal from Weingarten and after a Jaspers goal added his own on the man-up to lead 6-3 with 4:40 to play before the half.
  • The Jaspers got back within one before junior Austin Kent (Franklin, Mass.) struck with 1:37 to go in the half and send Bryant to the break leading 7-4.
  • A goal from McGovern opened the second half scoring and Weingarten added two to extend the lead to 10-4 with 7:40 to play in the third quarter.
  • Goals from redshirt-senior Jake Buonaiuto (Miller Place, N.Y.) and the fourth of the day from McGovern gave the Bulldogs a 12-4 lead with 4:46 to play in the third.
  • Weingarten scored early in the fourth quarter, and after a Jaspers goal, Bryant scored the final three goals courtesy of senior Zach Coffey (West Newbury, Mass.), McGovern and junior Sam Goforth (Chester Springs, Pa.) for the final 16-5 margin.

STATS

  • McGovern scored on five of his nine shots on goal and factored into 50% of Bryant's goals.
  • Weingarten recorded six shots on goal with four beating the Jaspers goalie.
  • Aigner recorded 11 ground balls.
  • Sophomore Keaton Jones (Austin, Texas) recorded two caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Luke Caracciolo (Centreville, Va.) made seven saves on 12 shots.
  • Bryant outshot Manhattan, 55-30, and recorded 33 shots on goal.
  • The Bulldogs held a 33-20 advantage in ground balls.

GAME NOTES

  • Bryant improves to 4-1 all-time against Manhattan.
  • The Bulldogs improve to 13-3 all-time vs. MAAC members.
  • Bryant's 16 goals scored and five goals allowed were season-bests.
