Bryant welcomes Merrimack, opens NEC play

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team opens Northeast Conference play this weekend when it welcomes Merrimack to Beirne Stadium on Saturday. Faceoff is set for 11:00 a.m. 

Saturday's game will be streamed free-of-charge on NECFrontRow.com.

THE SERIES
Bryant and Merrimack have met 13 times in program history, all as Division II rivals. The Bulldogs won eight of the 13 meetings, including each of the last four. The last meeting came in the 2008 NE-10 Semifinals, a 9-8 overtime victory for the Bulldogs.  

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Merrimack won back-to-back Division II National Championships before beginning the mandatory four-year transition to Division I. This season, the Warriors are 1-1 and are led in scoring by Tommy Rooney (8g, 2a - 10p). 

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs enter the weekend at 2-1 after a 15-12 victory over Vermont last Saturday. 
  • The Bulldogs are receiving votes in the latest USILA national poll. 
  • Bennett Abladian was named the NEC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after scoring his first collegiate hat trick last week. He finished the game with four points.
  • Logan McGovern notched four points in the win and leads the Bulldogs with 11 points on the year. 
  • Bryant received 10 of its 15 goals last week from freshmen. Aidan Goltz, Timmy Hackett and Isaiah Davis all scored their first collegiate goals in the game. 
  • Brody Rule was named an NEC Prime Performer after picking up five ground balls and causing four turnovers.
