Bryant draws No. 4 Virginia in NCAA First Round

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University men's lacrosse team will take on No. 4 national seed and defending National Champion Virginia in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships. The pairing was announced on Sunday night during the NCAA Selection Show. 

Bryant watched the selection show on the brand new video board at Beirne Stadium. The Bulldogs and Cavaliers will faceoff on Sunday, May 16 at 12:00 p.m. Sunday's game will air on ESPNU.

The Black and Gold qualified for the NCAA Tournament by winning their sixth Northeast Conference title on Saturday against Saint Joseph's, 16-10. Bryant will be competing in its fifth NCAA Tournament, having qualified in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. In 2014, the Black and Gold won a play-in game against Siena before upsetting Syracuse in the Carrier Dome in the first round.

Virginia, ranked No. 5 in the USILA coaches and Inside Lacrosse media polls, enters the NCAA Tournament with a 10-4 overall record. It marks the third NCAA Tournament in a row the Cavaliers have entered the tournament under Lars Tiffany with at least 10 wins. This is Virginia's 40th tournament appearance overall, third behind Johns Hopkins (47) and Maryland (43). Virginia has won six NCAA titles and have now received a bid for the last three NCAA Tournaments.

The winner of this game faces the winner of Saturday's game between Georgetown (No. 5 seed) and Syracuse in the quarterfinals at James M. Shuart Stadium, in Hempstead, N.Y., on Saturday (May 22). The quarterfinals will be televised on ESPNU.
