Men's Lacrosse announces captains for 2022

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University men's lacrosse head coach Mike Pressler announced Marc O'Rourke, Sam Goforth, Luke Caracciolo, Logan McGovern and Brody Rule as captains for the 2022 season on Saturday.

"With six weeks to go before we begin our preseason mini-camp and our 14th season at the DI level, it is with great joy for me to officially announce our five team captains for the 2022 season: Marc O'Rourke, Sam Goforth, Luke Caracciolo, Logan McGovern and Brody Rule," Pressler said. "All five were elected by their peers as we concluded fall ball back in October. It is a proven group on the field and also a diverse group by age with two fifth-year seniors, two fourth-year seniors and one true junior. We like the balance with three at the offensive end and two at the defensive end of the field. Their leadership, the example they set both on and off the field will be paramount to our team's success this upcoming spring. All five are incredible teammates, first class gentlemen and scholars in the classroom. I am very eager and excited to work with them on a daily basis once we return to campus to begin preseason. Once again, the leadership of Bryant Bulldog lacrosse is in great hands."

O'Rourke enters his final year in Smithfield looking to put the final touches on one of the best careers in program history. He ranks fourth in DI program history with 112 goals, needing just 30 to surpass Tucker James for first place. O'Rourke is also 41 points shy of joining James as the only players in DI program history with 200+ career points. One of the marquee names NCAA Division I this year, O'Rourke has scored at least 20 goals in all four seasons, despite just playing seven games due to the COVID shutdown in 2020 and just five in 2021 due to myocarditis.

Goforth returns for his fifth year and brings a great deal of leadership and professionalism. He's played in 29 games over the course of his career, tallying six goals and an assist. The highlight of those six goals came in last year's NCAA Tournament vs Virginia when he did a full 360-degree spin before shooting and scoring as he was going to the ground.

McGovern returns as Bryant's leading scorer from a season ago, finishing with 46 points in 11 games. After having played just 10 games total in his first two years due to injury and COVID, McGovern shined last spring with 20 goals and 26 assists on his way to All-New England Second Team honors. He recorded a pair of eight-point games and notched a hat trick against Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.

Bryant's final two captains will patrol the defensive end of the field this spring. Caracciolo is back between the pipes after enjoying a breakout season last spring. He was named to the All-New England First Team after going 9-3 with a 52.7 save percentage for the Black and Gold. Caracciolo was his best late in the season, earning NEC Tournament MVP honors after posting 35 saves in road wins at Hobart and Saint Joseph's. He currently ranks first in DI program history with 12.2 saves per game.

Rule is the lone junior of the group and is coming off a breakout sophomore season. He appeared in 11 of the 13 games, posting a pair of assists to go along with 25 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Rule enjoyed his best game of the year vs eventual NCAA Tournament participant Vermont, finishing with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Bryant opens the 2022 season on Feb. 12 at Providence College.
