Bulldogs fall to Dartmouth on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Dartmouth College held on for an 11-9 victory over the Bryant University men's lacrosse team on Saturday, spoiling the Bulldogs' home opener on Saturday.

The Big Green scored the final three goals of the first half to break a 4-4 tie and then held off a late Bryant rally to earn their second-straight win in the series.

Marc O'Rourke led the Black and Gold with six points on the heels of five goals and an assist.

  • Dartmouth scored the final three goals of the first half, including two in a 26-second span, to break a 4-4 tie and take a 7-4 lead.    

How it Happened

  • It was a defensive start to the game on a chilly Saturday. O'Rourke finally broke the deadlock with a bouncing shot at the 8:37 mark of the first quarter.
  • The Big Green, however, scored the next three goals.
  • Bennett Abladian's goal with just one second left in the first quarter made it 3-2.
  • Logan McGovern and Kevin Groeninger then scored 35 seconds apart to tie the game at 4-4 with 12:07 left in the second quarter.
  • Dartmouth answered with the next three, scoring twice in 26 seconds to make it 7-4 with 7:00 to go.
  • The Big Green opened an 8-4 lead in the third quarter before O'Rourke scored three-straight goals in a 2:30 span to make it 8-7 with 5:57 to go in the third.
  • Dartmouth got the next two before Timmy Hackett netted a goal at the 10:26 mark of the fourth.
  • O'Rourke's final goal of the night made it 11-9 with 49 seconds left in the game.
