Bulldogs defeat UCONN 172-81

Storrs, Conn. - The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team defeated UCONN by a score of 172-81 behind stellar performances from Matthew Mastroianni and Matthew Mays.

 

Coach Keane's Comments

"Great meet overall! We keep improving each week, seeing faster swims and working towards bigger dives. Things are coming along well and you can see the confidence in our athletes when they step up to race or dive".

 

 Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs started the meet with a second and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Mays, Calvin Groenewold, Dom Scifo, and Eric Bebel recorded a time of 1:33.95. Charles Keen, Ryan Burke, Jake Williams, and Chris Kerrigan posted a time of 1:47.04.
  • Mastroianni won both the 100 and 200 free with times of 47.80 and 1:48.27. Bebel (48.23) and Kerrigan (51.07) placed second and third in the 100. Asher Stukelman and Kerrigan finished second and third in the 200 with times of 1:48.73 and 1:51.25.
  • Mays continued his season-long dominance of the back with wins in the 100 (50.09) and 200 back (1:51.81). Stukelman placed third in the 200 (2:02.69).
  • Groenewold was victorious in the 200 breast (2:09.89) and placed third in the 100 breast (59.05). Wills D'Angelo and Payton Nicastro earned second and third in the 200 with times of 2:17.73 and 2:22.75.
  • Freshman Brandon Naylor picked up the win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.41. Fellow classmate Kyle Brown placed third (2:04.49)
  • The Bulldogs swept in the 50 free with a 1-3 finish from Bebel (21.83), Reese Stevenson (22.35), and Scifo (22.72).
  • The Black and Gold earned a win in the 500 free (5:13.87) from freshman Aaron Khodarkovsky.
  • Bebel and Scifo went 2-3 in the 100 fly with times of 53.55 and 53.96.
  • Bryant captured another victory in the 200 IM when Naylor touched the wall at 4:22.37. Stukelman and Stringfellow placed second and third with times of 4:28.35 and 4:36.13.
  • The Bulldogs ended the meet with a first, second, and third-place finish in the 400 free relay. Stevenson. Mastroianni, Matt Stanley, and Mays earned first (3:16.84). Scifo, Groenewold, Williams, and Chris McHeffey placed second (3:22.27). Burke, Khodarkovsky, Nicastro, and Keen posted a time of 3:34.41 to capture third.
