Season Preview: Swimming and Diving

Bryant swimming and diving is coming off a historic season, capturing both men's and women's NEC titles. The women claimed their fourth straight conference championship, winning 18 total medals. The men won the title for the first time, with 16 medals.

 

Women's Preview

The women's swim team returns many of their top performers from last season. They are led by seniors Sara Gendron, Claire Russell, Kelly Tiernan, Alyvia Beaudion, Elin Svard, and Amelia Berg. Gendron had a strong showing at the NEC championships, winning silver in the 200 fly and bronze in the 400 individual medley.

Junior Kyri Chambo led the diving squad once again, claiming her second Diver of the Meet award in as many years at the conference championships. She won gold in both the one and three meter dives.

Sophomore Julia Stenhård was the Rookie of the Meet at the NEC's, earning silver medals in the 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, and 100 fly. She was also part of the gold medal winning team in the 200 medley relay. 

Junior Erin Doruska was also on the 200 medley relay team, and won two individual medals herself, claiming bronze in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. Fellow junior Sammi Grenon also won two medals at the NEC's, earning silver in the 1650 free and bronze in the 400 individual medley. Sophomore Natalia Kuipers also returns. She placed seventh at the NEC's in the 1650 free, and competed this summer at the Tokyo Olympics, representing the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Jillian Stevens, Faith Gambardella, Madeline Condon, Rylee Wirtanen, Megan Donnelly, Rose Cunningham, and Laurel Carey also return for the Bulldogs. They will be joined by freshmen Dalena Tran, Sydney Barnett, Skylar Dacey, Megan Sevigny, Grace Noble, Halle Moore, Charlee LeGallais, Paige Edwards, Sophia Grabman, Reagan Lord, Mackenzie Patch, and Margaret Petruzzelli.

 

Men's Preview

The men also return a large contingent of their championship winning squad. Seniors Matthew Mays, FuKang Wong, Eric Bebel, Evan Clark, Benjamin Prouty, Trent Levasseur, and Dom Scifo lead the team.

Mays had a strong showing at last season's NEC Championships, winning five gold medals. In addition to individual golds in the 100 and 200 back and 200 individual medley, Mays was also on the winning teams in the 200 free and medley relays. His time in the 200 back also set a Bryant record. Wong also took home serious hardware, winning gold in the 200 breast and silver in the 100 breast. He was also on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Bebel was a member of the winning relay teams in the 200 free and 200 medley, and won an individual bronze in the 100 fly.

On the diving side, Drew Arnold and Evan Clark were co-Divers of the Meet, taking first and second in both events. Arnold won gold in the one meter dive and silver in three meters, while Clark took gold in the three meter and silver in the one meter event,

Fellow NEC Championship medalists Tyler Stringfellow and Brandon Naylor are also back, along with Reese Stevenson, Chase Konstantakos, Charles Keen, Kyle Brown, Calvin Groenewold, Aaron Khodarkovsky, Jake Williams, Payton Nicastro, Chris Kerrigan, John Famiglietti, Asher Stukelman, Jackson McDonough, and Ryan Burke. They will be joined by freshmen Andrew Gamper, Griffin Lajoie, Andrew Smetana, Nathan Sideris, Alex Rowson, Charles London, Leonardo Luna, Griffin Schimmel, Connor Lofstrom, and Colton Litwinczyk.

 

The Bulldogs open their season this Friday vs. Providence, with the men's swimming events in the Chace Center pool.
