Coastal Carolina blanks Bulldogs
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina blanked the Bryant University softball team on Tuesday morning, 7-0, to conclude the two-game series.

COACH FRENCH'S COMMENTS
"We fought and battled," said head coach Nick French. "That's a game that could have ended in a double-digit deficit or a shortened run rule game, but we were able to make some plays on defense, learn a few new situations and get a lot of experience. So overall we got a lot better today which is what spring break is for."
KEY MOMENT
- In the bottom of the second, Abbey Montoya smacked the ball on a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Five of Coastal Carolina's runs came from home three different home runs. In the second inning, Montoya hit the first homer to bring in the first two runs. Followed by a solo and a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
- In the third inning, the Chanticleers loaded the bases with three walks. Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.) threw a wild pitch that made its way past Marianna Politis (Arcadia, Calif.), and CCU capitalized on the situation by making their way home.
- With a runner on second, Coastal Carolina hit a ground ball to Jessica Gradillas (Nogales, Ariz.), who overthrew to first base in an attempt to get the out. The Chanticleers advanced to second and scored an unearned run.
STATS
- Politis tallied two base hits, leading the Bulldogs with the only hits of the day.
- Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) led with two strikeouts, giving up two walks in two innings pitched.
- Adriana Sanchez (Clyde, Ohio) made her pitching debut for the 2019 season, striking out one batter and giving up just one hit during two innings in the circle.
GAME NOTES
- The Bulldogs drop to 0-2 all-time against CCU.
- Politis notched a season-high of two hits.
- Sanchez appeared in her first game of the 2019 season tallying a season-best of one strikeout.
