Bulldogs fall to LIU 6-5 in Game 1 on Saturday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Bryant University softball team fell to Long Island 6-5 after a two-hour weather delay between the fifth and sixth inning in New York on Saturday.

Coach French's Comments

"Really proud of the effort today. It was a long day with a couple of delays, but we were right in it until the end".

Key Moment 

  • Carlyn Hernandez slapped a single up the middle with a runner on second with two outs in the top of the sixth. The Bryant runner was then waved home, but the throw from the center fielder beat the runner to end the top half of the inning.

How it Happened 

  • Jenna Gardner hit a leadoff single, which set up Toni Camarillo, who slapped a double to left-center for the game's first run (1-0). McKeveny then hit an RBI single to bring in Camarillo for the score (2-0).
  • Garnder launched a solo home run over the left-field wall to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with two outs.
  • During the bottom of the second inning, LIU tallied five runs on three singles and a double (5-3).
  • The Sharks posted their sixth run of the game on an RBI single to left (6-3).
  • Hernandez recorded a walk, which led to a two-run home run to deep left field from Megan Marcel to decrease the deficit to one (6-5).

  • Gardner recorded three hits and two RBIs on a home run and single.
  • Camarillo and McKeveny had two hits and an RBI. Camarillo recorded two doubles.
