Dawgs lose close one to Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bryant University softball team fell to Providence by a score of 10-9 in a Wednesday afternoon out of conference matchup.

 Key Moment 

  • When the Bulldogs took a one-run lead, PC responded with four runs in the following inning.

How it Happened 

  • The Friars scored the game's first run on a double to right-center in the bottom of the first inning (1-0). PC added two more with a home run (3-0).
  • During the bottom of the second inning, Providence posted three runs with a solo and two-run home run (6-0).
  • McKenzie McAloon was hit by a pitch to begin the top of the third inning. Aleix Hudson then reached on an error, which set up Jenna Gardner, who got the Bulldogs on the board with a double to left field (6-1).
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Carlyn Hernandez was walked, and then McAloon sent a double down the left-field line for Bryant's second run (6-2).
  • The Black and Gold recorded back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to get within two (6-4) in the top of the fifth inning.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Allison Tomaino hit a single past the pitcher, and then Hudson launched a two-run home run over the left-field wall to tie the game at six. Jenna Gardner hit a double after, and Courtney Paolantonio brought her home with a single to give the Bulldogs the lead (7-6).
  • The Friars responded with a four-run inning during the bottom of the sixth on a single, double, and home run (10-7).
  • McAloon hit a leadoff single, and Erica Barley doubled to left field placing runners on second and third. Gardner then singled to left center, getting the Black and Gold within one (10-9). Bryant would then strikeout to end the game.
