French hires Wheat as Assistant Softball Coach

SMITHFIELD, R.I - Head Coach Nick French is excited to announce the hiring of Mary Karen Wheat as the new assistant softball coach.

"I'm really excited to welcome MK on here at Bryant," said coach French. "She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to work with our kids. I can't wait to see the impact she has on our pitchers and team as a whole."

Wheat brings a wealth of experience to the position as she will enter her 13th season in the coaching ranks. Most recently, she spent three years at the University of Rochester. She was named the 2021 NFCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year for leading the Yellowjackets to a 35-10 record and a trip to the NCAA Finals for the second time in program history.

Before her time at Rochester, Wheat was at Red Jacket Central School, where she led the team to a Section V Championship and two semifinal appearances. She then became the head coach at Brockport High School from 2015-16, where she helped the team reach the 2015 Section V Championship game. As a player, Wheat pitched at Binghamton from 1998-2003, where she pitched 416 innings and registered a 1.81 ERA.
