Men post highest score ever at NEC Championship

Results

 NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The Bryant University outdoor track and field team continued its historic showing as the men's team finished with its highest point total ever.

The women's team finished ninth overall while the men took the seven spot with 56 points.

COACH SWITZER'S COMMENTS

"All outdoor season we discussed the steps to scoring at championships and how we have to make the most out of every opportunity we have to compete no matter the situation. The team really took that to heart and we were able to walk away with 20 scoring performances across the entire team and have the men score their highest point total ever. I'm very proud of how far the team has come this season and thankful for the dedication this years seniors gave to the program over their last four years to get to this point."

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Freshman Andrew Canale (Lincroft, N.J.) medaled in the 400-meter. The rookie took home a bronze medal and qualified for IC4A with a time of 48.49.

  • Junior Christopher Wrenn (Norton, Mass.) brought in four points to the men's team with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 1:54.15. Freshman Jason Dolan (Westford, Mass.) also brought in two points in the same event, finishing with a time of 1:56.92 for seventh-place.

  • Rookies William Bittrich (Duxbury, Mass.) and Dolan finished just outside the top three in the 1,500-meter run. Bittrich finished fourth with a new PR of 3:58.90, while Dolan trailed right behind in fifth-place with a time of 3:59.52.

  • Noah Tellier (North Kingston, R.I.) tallied a point for the Bulldogs in the 5,000-meter run. Tellier set a new personal-best with a time of 15:10.35 placing him seventh.

  • In his last NEC Championship, Matt McGovern (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 10,000-meter followed by Tellier in eighth. McGovern finished with a time of 33:35.44 and Tellier came in at 33:38.63.

  • The 4x100 relay team of Alec Binette (Glastonbury, Conn.), Brian Murray (Westford, Mass), Adam Winiarz (Norton, Mass.), and Josh Pestana (Plymouth, Mass.) finished eighth and brought in a point for the Black and Gold. The team posted a time of 43.01.

  • In the 4x400, the Bulldogs took home a bronze medal with a time of 3:15.98. Murray, Winiarz, Binette, and Canale became IC4A qualifiers in the event.

  • Chris Fasano (Lake Grove, N.Y.) placed fifth throwing 42.49 meters in the discus throw event to bring in four points.

  • Nick Alessandro (Pomfret Center, Conn.) and Evan Clark finished fourth and eighth in javelin. Alessandro threw 53.96 meters while Clark came in at eighth-place throwing 46.45 meters.

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS

  • SophomoreCourtney Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) finished sixth in shot put throwing 11.99 meters to bring points to the women.

  • Junior Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.) came in 13th in the 3,000-meter steeple with a time of 12:40.76.

  • Freshman Laura Rizik (Oradell, N.J.) came in at the 14 spot in discus throwing 33.39 meters.

UP NEXT
 The qualifying Bulldogs will compete in the NEICAAA Championship or the ECAC/IC4A qualifier on Friday May 10 and Saturday May 11  at both Northeastern and Princeton.
