Bryant finds success in weekend meets

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Two broken records and three medals highlighted the weekend as the Bryant University men's and women's track & field team competed at both the ECAC/IC4A Championship and the NEICAAA Championship.

History was made at the IC4A Championship as the men posted its highest finish to date of 12th with 23 points. Jason Dolan and William Remkiewicz also earned the highest medals in school history at the meet. Both Bulldogs received silver medals in each of their events.  

MEN TOP PERFORMERS

IC4A

  • Jason Dolan snapped Bryant's 800m record and earned a silver medal at IC4As. The junior posted a record-breaking time of 1:49.08 and earned All-East honors.
  • William Remkiewicz also earned All-East honors as he medaled in the 400m. Remkiewicz earned silver and crossed the finish line at 47.53. Sophomore Jacob Goodman trailed in 20th with a PR of 50.69.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Ethan Ferraiola, Andrew Canale, Dolan, and Remkiewicz took home a bronze medal with a time of 3:15.46 which was good for All-East distinction. 
  • The 4x100 and 4x800 relays both finished within the top 10. The 4x100 team of Ferraiola, Goodman, Edward Cardarelli, and Aidan Smith finished ninth with a time of 42.07 while the 4x800 team of Nolan Hickey, Alex Petruso, Luke Silva, and Aidan Hickey finished eighth with a time of 7:56.11. The 4x8 squad also earned All-East honors. 

 

NEICAAA

  • Aidan Hickey now ranks seventh all-time at Bryant in the 800m after setting a personal best of 1:54.41 and finishing 13th.
  • Freshman Nolan Hickey led the Bulldogs in the 1500m with a PR of 3:56.90 which was good for an 11th-place finish.
  • Trey Muraoka improved to second all-time at Bryant in high jump with a PR of 1.91m which was good for 11th overall.
  • Nick Alessandro (56.28) finished sixth followed by Emmett Ruote (53.03m) in 13th in javelin.
  • William Bittrich and Evan Coyne finished 14 and 18 in the 5000m. Bittirch posted a time of 15:27.40 while Coyne crossed the finish line at 16:00.40.
  • In the 10,000m, Noah Tellier posted a time of 33:21.22 finishing 10th. Peter Theuerkauf trailed in 12th with a time of 34:06.54.
  • Senior Brett Cloutier threw for 15.18m in shot put and finished eighth.
  • Bill Conlan led in hammer throw with a 44.10m mark finishing 16th while Thomas McNeil finished 18th with a 42.25m mark for a PR.  

WOMEN TOP PERFORMERS

ECAC

  • Juniors Sarah Freeman and Julia Ayres were the lone Bulldogs from the women's side to compete at ECAC's. Freeman finished 16th in the 1500m with a time of 4:43.85 while Ayres finished 12th in the 3000m with a time of 10:26.97.

 

NEICAAA

  • The 4x100 relay team of Nicole Xiarhos, Jasmine Hope, Christina Capozzi, and Ana Bertarelli broke Bryant's school record and finished fourth overall with a time of 47.88. The relay team set the previous record earlier this season at the NEC Championship when they earned a bronze medal and posted a time of 48.13.
  • Xiarhos finished just outside the top three in the 200m with a fourth-place finish and a time of 25.32.
  • Freshman Ali Kairys finished 17th in the 800m with a time of 2:28.96.
  • Sophomore Abby Hamilton set a personal best in the 5000m. Hamilton finished 16th with a time of 18:23.57.
  • The 4x800 relay team of Emma Garrity, Lauren Cawley, Capozzi, and Xiarhos now rank fourth all-time at Bryant as they posted a time of 4:01.02 and finished 10th overall.
  • Lois Warden and Hope each finished among the top 10 in their events. Warden finished ninth in pole vault clearing a height of 3.40m while Hope finished 10th in long jump with a 5.44m mark.
  • Sophomore Kasey Thomas and Lily LaGoy represented the Black and Gold in shot put. Thomas led with a 12.42m mark which was good for an eighth-place overall finish while LaGoy posted an 11.23m mark and finished 14th.
  • LaGoy also competed in discus and finished 20th with a 33.21m mark.
  • Thomas posted a personal-best in hammer throw with a 42.95m mark and finished 17th, but it was Anna Orticerio who led the Bulldogs in 13th and a 44.73m mark. Julia Mechlinski threw for 38.44m and finished 20th.
