Bulldogs travel to Staten Island to take on Wagner

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's basketball team looks to extend its winning streak as the Bulldogs head to Staten Island to take on Wagner for the first time this season. The two teams will meet on Monday, February 25 at 7 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
Bryant meets with Wagner for the first time this season on Monday, February 25 at 7 p.m. in Staten Island.

SCOUTING SEAHAWKS
Wagner posts a 10-15 overall record and a 8-6 record against Northeast Conference opponents. They currently have sole possession of fifth place in the NEC rankings and have clinched an NEC Tournament berth.

Taylah Simmons leads the Seahwaks averaging 15.1 points a game. Simmons posted 11 points most recently in Wagners, 60-44 win over FDU.

Heather Jacobs leads the Seahwaks in her third season as head coach.

SERIES HISTORY
Monday's meeting will be the 18th time in history that the two teams have met. Bryant split with Wagner last season. The Seahawks topped the Bulldogs in Smithfield, 75-66, fueling a 70-60 Bryant victory in Staten Island. The Bulldogs have yet to lose on Wagner's home court.

LAST TIME OUT: BRYANT 77, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 59
The Bulldogs topped the Mountaineers on Saturday for the second time this season, 77-59, in a total team effort.

Bryant posted four different double-digit scorers in Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W.Va.) (26), Masey Zegarowski (Hamilton, Mass.) (13), Julia Kelner (Fayetteville, N.Y.) (11), and Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) (10). Kierra Palmer (Aberdeen, Md.) also led the Bulldogs with 10 assists.

SEEING DOUBLE
Holloway tallies 16 double-doubles so far this season, 35 for her career, leading the NEC. Holloway ranks 13th in the country for her double-double efforts averaging a double-double a night with 16.9 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game. Most recently, Holloway posted a double-double performance over Mount St. Mary's with 26 points, 11 rebounds.

DISHING IT OUT
Palmer led the Bulldogs with a season-high 10 assists in conference opener vs. LIU Brooklyn. Palmer tied her season-best against Mount St. Mary's as she tallied another double-digit assist performance with 10. She currently leads the Bulldogs with 97 assists so far on the season and is ranked second in the NEC for assists per game with 3.9. Palmer compiled her 500th assist against Sacred Heart as she is now one of just seven players in NEC history to reach the milestone.

NO, NO, NO
Scanlan leads the Bulldogs with 18 block so far this season. The New Jersey native posted a season-high three blocks against Saint Francis U following her performance up with two in the very next game against Central Connecticut. As a team, the Bulldogs denied a season-best of five against Mount St. Mary's. Kelner and Taty LaFrance Boyce (Norwich, Conn.) each led with two and Naomi Ashley (Hamilton, Ont.) added one.

ZEGA-WHO?
Zegarowski has been a major contributor for the Bulldogs during their conference schedule. In Bryant's conference opener against LIU Brooklyn, Zegarowski posted a season-high 16 points. The Massachusetts native was one point shy from tying her season-high again as she scored 15 points at FDU shooting 7-of-11 from the field. Zegarowski posted her best three-point shooting game shooting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc at Robert Morris tallying 12 points. The junior guard has posted double-figure scoring in nine of 14 conference games. Zegarowski averages 9.6 points per game this season against NEC opponents.

SECRET WEAPON
After not appearing in 10 conference games, Julia Kelner has started in the last two games for the Bulldogs. Kelner posted a career game against Mount St. Mary's notching career or season bests in almost every category. The sophomore posted 11 points shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-7 from the free throw line. She also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds and career-high two blocks against an NEC foe in 24 minutes of play.
