Bulldogs swept by LIU

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Bryant University women's basketball team fell to Long Island, 83-42, on Monday night. 

The duo of Nicole Gallagher and Brooke Bjelko led Bryant's offense with a combined 21 points. Both players were just three rebounds away from a double-double.

KEY MOMENT

  •  The Sharks grew an early lead in the first quarter and didn't look back as they held the advantage for the remainder of the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sharks jumped out to an early 10-3 lead to start the game holding Bryant to just one made field goal for eight of the first ten minutes. Juliette Golden went on to get one more field goal before the end of the first quarter, but LIU held the Bulldogs to just two-of-11 shooting from the field in the first ten minutes.
  • Gallagher netted five second-quarter points but the Sharks outscored Bryant 20-9 to take a 37-14 lead at the half.
  • Bryant shot 50% from the field in both the third and fourth quarter and netted 11 points from the foul line in the second half. But LIU's offense deemed too much for Bryant as the Sharks erupted for 48 second half points, compared to Bryant's 28.

STATS

  • Gallagher led with 11 points and seven rebounds shooting four-of-10 from the field.
  • Bjelko added 10 points and seven rebounds.
  • Sophomore Alana Perkins posted seven points off two-of-six shooting from the field and one-of-three from behind the arc.
  • Freshman Lucie Castagne contributed five points followed by Golden with four.
  • Stephanie Mayerhofer shot one-of-two from three-point range.
  • Bryant shot 34.1% from the field (14-41).
  • The Bulldogs were outrebounded, 37-32.

GAME NOTES

  • Bryant is now 6-5 all-time in Brooklyn against LIU.
  • Tonight's loss is the first 40+ point loss since Nov. 2019 when the Bulldogs fell to Minnesota, 101-56.
