Bjelko records double-double in loss to UVM

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Brooke Bjelko of the Bryant University women's basketball team recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the 61-45 loss to Vermont at the Chace Athletic Center.

Shannon O'Connor posted 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

 How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs got off to a slow start being outscored 10-4 by the Catamounts before the first quarter media timeout. Megan Bodziony and Marta Neira Martinez each recorded a bucket.
  • The Black and Gold outscored Vermont 8-7 in the remaining five minutes of the opening quarter (17-12). Bjelko scored four points, Juliette Golden had two, and Kemari Reynolds posted two.
  • In the first six minutes of the second quarter, UVM outdueled Bryant 9-5 (26-19). Bjelko scored four, and Martinez recorded two.
  • Bryant then outscored UVM 6-3, heading into the half resulting in a four-point deficit (29-25). O'Connor tallied four, and Reynolds registered two.
  • The Bulldogs and Catamounts had a defensive battle in the third quarter with Vermont earning a slight 9-7 edge in the period (38-32). Nicole Gallagher, Martinez, Reynolds tallied two points each. Golden sank one free throw.
  • UVM scored 23, and The Black and Gold posted 13 in the final quarter resulting in a 61-45 loss for the Bulldogs. Bjelko scored seven, and O'Connor recorded six points in the fourth period.
