Fortuny posts a career-high in pts and rebs in loss to Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Mariona Planes Fortuny of the Bryant University women's basketball team recorded a career-high 22 points and 11 board in the 92-55 road loss to Merrimack on Thursday.

Nicole Gallagher had 13 points and eight rebounds, and fellow guard Fatou Jallow posted 10 points and four steals.

  • Merrimack outscored Bryant 28-9 in the first quarter and didn't give up the lead the entire game.

 How it Happened

  • Merrimack controlled the first quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 28-9. Jallow led the quarter for Bryant with four, Gallagher earned a tough two after stealing a pass and getting fouled on the one-woman fastbreak. Brooke Bjelko also recorded two points.
  • The Black and Gold responded with a 9-8 run (39-20) before the second-quarter media timeout. Gallagher made the first three-pointer of the game for Bryant during the run. Both teams continued going back and forth with the Warriors, earning a slight 10-9 edge to finish the half, resulting in a 49-29 deficit. Fortuny tallied six points, Gallagher and Megan Bodziony had five each, Lucie Castagne and Jallow posted two.
  • The Warriors continued to maintain their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 25-13 during the period (74-42). Gallagher and Fortuny recorded four, Bjelko posted three, and Jallow tallied two.
  • Fortuny dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of Bryants 13 points in the final quarter. Merrimack earned an 18-13 advantage producing a 92-55 defeat for the Black and Gold.
