Dawgs continue homestand against MSM on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's basketball team welcomes the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's to Smithfield for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

The Bulldogs will also be honoring alumni at the game.

THE SERIES
The Bulldogs are 13-12 all-time against the Mountaineers and have a 7-5 advantage in Smithfield. Mount St. Mary's defeated the Black and Gold 68-52 in their first meeting this season, which was played in Maryland. Brooke Bjelko led the way with 16 points, and fellow center Mariona Planes Fortuny contributed 12.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
MSM comes into Saturday's matchup with an 8-10 overall record and a conference record of 6-5. The Mountaineers won their most recent game on Thursday against Merrimack by a score of 68-58. Kendall Bresee tallied 17 points in the victory. Bresee also leads the NEC in ppg with 15.8.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Bryant's defense was the story in Thursday's victory as they held SFU to 36 points on 11 field goals made. This is the second time this season that the Bulldogs defense has held an opponent to 15 or fewer field goals (Albany).
  • The Black and Gold shot 46% from three (7-15) against the Red Flash, with Fatou Jallow, Alana Perkins, and Nicole Gallagher making at least two threes. Bryant is now shooting 34% from beyond the arc, which ranks 45th in the country, and second in the conference.
  • Bjelko continues to make her mark offensively as she leads the NEC in field goals made (117) and total points (294). She also has played the most minutes in the conference with 708.
  • In the last three games, Fortuny has recorded 41 points on 46% shooting while going 15-18 from the line during the stretch.
  • Lucie Castagne has tallied a career-high 27 rebounds this season and 16 in the last three games.
