Bryant to face MSM in the NEC Championship on Sunday

EMMITSBURG, MD. - The number seven seeded Bryant University women's basketball team will face number three seeded Mount St. Mary's on the road in the 2022 Northeast Conference Championship on Sunday.

The winner of the game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's College Basketball Championships.

THE SERIES
In their series, the Bulldogs and the Mountaineers are tied 13-13 all-time. MSM defeated Bryant in both meetings this season by a score of 68-52. Fatou Jallow led the Black and Gold in scoring in the second meeting with 13 points.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
MSM heads into Sunday's game with a 15-12 overall record and an 11-7 conference record. The Mountaineers defeated Wagner 62-50 at home in the NEC Quarterfinals. Michela Harrison led the team in points, with 19, and the conference's leading scorer Kendall Bresse posted 13 points in the victory. She is averaging 14.8 ppg.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Nicole Gallagher has stepped up in the playoffs, led the Bulldogs in rebounding in both games, and has reached double figures twice, including a season-high 19 points against SFC. She also made the game-clinching shot against Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • Bryant becomes the second seven-seed in NEC history to advance to the NEC Championship. The Bulldogs also picked up their first win streak of the season in the playoffs after defeating SFC and FDU.
  • Head coach Mary Burke brings her team to their second championship in their eighth year of eligibility. Bryant previously made the NEC Championship in 2016 when they lost to then member Rober Morris.
  • In all of Bryant's playoff wins, they have held their opponent to under 40% shooting from the field and under 30% shooting from deep. Including tying their season-low when they held FDU to 38 points in the quarterfinals.
  • Jallow has recorded at least one steal in the last 11 games and has two games with four steals. 
  • The Bulldogs are looking to win their first NEC Championship in DI program history.
