Fortuny, Perkins, and Bodziony combine for 57 in victory at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - Mariona Planes Fortuny of the Bryant University women's basketball team scored 22 points and 12 boards for a double-double in the Bulldogs 70-63 road victory against the Big Green of Dartmouth in the season opener. 

Alana Perkins poured in 19 points while going 5-6 from beyond the arc. Megan Bodziony scored a career-high 16 points in the victory.

  • The Bulldogs trailed 59-52 with six minutes remaining in the fourth and then hit three straight from beyond the arc to gain the lead.

 How it Happened

  • Bodziony came out on fire in the first quarter scoring the first seven points for the Black and Gold and keeping pace with the Big Green. 
  • Dartmouth would then go on an 8-3 run to finish the first quarter, gaining a 15-10 lead.
  • The Bulldogs were outscored 20-12 in the second quarter and trailed 35-22 at halftime.
  • Fortuny started the second half with six points, along with a Bodziony layup to cut the deficit to nine (37-28), with six and a half remaining in the quarter. Perkins then caught fire from beyond the arc and hit back-to-back three's to shrink the Dartmouth lead to three (37-34).
  • The Bulldogs outdueled the Big Green 9-6 for the remaining three minutes of the third quarter behind another Perkins triple, four points from Fortuny, and a Bodziony layup. This scoring run tied the game at 43.
  • The Big Green jumped to a 56-49 lead with seven minutes left in the game by outscoring Bryant 13-6.
  • The Black and Gold then responded with 12 straight points from three-point territory. Two by Perkins, one by Bodziony, and one by Lucie Castagne (61-59).
  • Fortuny and Bodziony scored four points together, and the Big Green registered two of their own to make it a 65-61 lead for Bryant with one minute left. Marta Neira Martinez and Castagne then secured the win for the Bulldogs with back-to-back steals. Dartmouth was forced to foul, and the Black and Gold went 5-for-6 to win 70-63.
