Fortuny and Martinez hit double figures in loss to Pitt

PITTSBURGH, PA. – Mariona Planes Fortuny scored 16 points, and Marta Neira Martinez posted 15 points in the Bryant University Women's basketball team's 93-54 road loss against Pittsburgh.

 How it Happened

  • Martinez started the game with a corner three to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. The Panthers then went on a 12-2 run forcing the Bulldogs to call a timeout with 5:19 remaining in the first quarter (14-5).
  • The Black and Gold fought back in the remainder of the first quarter scoring eight compared to Pitt's 10 points (22-12). Martinez nailed a three, Nicole Gallagher converted a fast break layup, and Fortuny tallied a layup.
  • The Panthers then outdueled Bryant 18-9 in the first six minutes of the second period (40-21). Gallagher led the way with a step-back triple. Lucie Castagne, Fortuny, and Blanca Chasco all added two points.
  • The Bulldogs then outscored Pitt 8-7 making the halftime score 47-29 in favor of the Panthers. Martinez and Castagne hit triples, and Chasco converted on a fast break layup.
  • Pitt opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers. The Black and Gold then responded with a 6-0 run from Fortuny (4) and Martinez, who scored two on an offensive rebound (53-35).
  • The Panthers posted 17 points to the Bulldog's nine to conclude the third quarter (70-44). Fortuny, Martinez, and Megan Bodziony posted two each, and Kemari Reynolds hit a wing three-pointer.
