Bryant falls to Loyola at home on Monday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's basketball team fell to Loyola MD. At home by a score of 69-64 on Monday night.

  • Down one (65-64), the Bulldogs turned it over with a minute and a half remaining, leading to a 4-0 Loyola run.

How it Happened

  • Both teams went back and forth as they scored nine each in the first six minutes of action. Mariona Planes Fortuny netted seven, and Lucie Castagne added a layup.
  • The Bulldogs then took control and tallied 11 to the Greyhound's six to earn a 20-15 lead at the end of the first period. Megan Bodziony posted two, Nicole Gallager hit a three, Jessica Berens added two, Marta Neira Martinez posted two, and Castagne recorded a layup.
  • In the second quarter, the Greyhounds outscored the Black and Gold 16-9 to gain a 31-29 advantage. Berens led the way with four, Kemari Reynolds and Fortuny tallied two, and Bodziony hit a free throw.
  • The Bulldogs opened the third quarter on an 11-4 (42-35) in the period's first four and a half minutes. Bodziony recorded four, Castagne knocked down a three, Gallagher notched a two, and Fortuny hit a nice turnaround jumper in the paint.
  • The Greyhounds responded with a 13-8 run to conclude the quarter making the game 50-48 in favor of the Bulldogs heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Reynolds came out with a fury, scoring four straight points, giving Bryant a 54-48 lead at the eight-minute media timeout.
  • The Greyhounds then hit two from deep and a free throw, while Castagne tallied a layup, making the score 56-55, with six remaining.
  • Fortuny then got the ball on the block and converted a tough layup through contact (58-55). Loyola then went on a 6-0 run, earning a 61-58 lead. Gallagher then nailed a corner three on the dish from Bodziony to tie the game at 61. The Greyhounds fought back with a putback, and Bryant took the lead on a straightaway triple from Dana Kiefer (64-63).
  • The Black and Gold were held scoreless, and the Greyhounds tallied six points to earn the 69-64 defeat over Bryant.
