Bryant loses to UMass Lowell at home

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Mariona Planes Fortuny recorded 22 points and seven rebounds while going 8-8 from the line in the Bryant University women's basketball team's home loss to UMass Lowell.

Nicole Gallagher contributed 16 points, and Kemari Reynolds tallied 12.

Key Moment

  • The Black and Gold shrunk the deficit to four with 2:34 left in the third quarter. UML responded with a 10-0 run and never relinquished the lead.

How it Happened

  • It was a close first five minutes as UML earned a slight 12-10 edge at the media timeout. Fortuny scored four, Reynolds got a nice steal and score, and Dana Kiefer opened the game with a layup off the feed from Fortuny.
  • The Bulldogs closed the quarter outscoring the River Hawks 8-5, with Fortuny scoring all eight points (18-17).
  • The River Hawks came out on top in a fast-paced first six minutes, with UML recording 12 points to Bryant's 10. Fortuny scored four, Gallagher had four, and Megan Bodziony chipped in two points (29-28).
  • UML continued on the offensive, recording 10 points compared to the Bulldog's six, courtesy of Alana Perkin's three-pointers (39-34).
  • Fortuny made two free throws for the Dawg's only points of the first four minutes of the game. The River Hawks scored three, making the score 42-36 in favor of UML.
  • UML didn't let up en route to a 17-8 run, earning a 59-44 advantage after three.
  • The Bulldogs outscored UML 19-17, which resulted in a 76-33 loss to the River Hawks.

  • Bryant shot 40.7% from the field, 26.3% from deep, and 100% from the free-throw line.
  • Fortuny tallied 22 points and corralled seven rebounds.
