Bio

Britt King will enter her eighth season as the associate head coach of the Bryant University women's basketball team in 2021-22.

Since being with the Black and Gold, Coach King has coached and developed nine All-Conference honorees. Most recently, King helped Sydney Holloway to back-to-back First Team laurels and a Second Team selection to close out Holloway's four-year career. King also worked daily to develop Alex Klein and Breanna Rucker into First Team All-Conference players, including a Northeast Conference Player of the Year in Rucker. Ivory Bailey, Tiersa Winder and Kierra Palmer were among the other players under King's guidance earning First, Second and All-Rookie team laurels.

In 2016-17, King helped lead the Bulldogs to their best-ever Northeast Conference finish, reaching the conference finals where they fell to No. 1 Robert Morris. The 18-14 Bulldogs went 11-7 against conference foes, earning the No. 4 seed in the league tournament. The Bulldogs hosted and defeated No. 5 Mount St. Mary's in the NEC Quarterfinals, before defeating No. 2 Sacred Heart in the NEC Semifinals en route to the program's first-ever NEC Championship appearance as the unlikely No. 4 seed.

In the 2015-16 season, King helped the Bulldogs back to the NEC Tournament after posting an 18-13 overall record and 14-4 conference mark, including a 10-0 start in league play, becoming one of only seven teams to reach the 10-0 tally in Northeast Conference history (29 years). The No. 2 Bulldogs took down No. 7 LIU Brooklyn, 70-56, in the NEC Quarterfinals, before No. 3 Robert Morris upset the Bulldogs, 72-59, for the third-straight year in the league semifinals.

In 2014-15, King helped the Bulldogs capture a share of the Northeast Conference Regular Season Title, the first in program history. The Black and Gold also tied the mark for the most wins in program history (22), the most Northeast Conference wins in a season (14), and the highest finish in the NEC standings (tied for first).

In 2015, King was elected to the Univeristy of the District of Columbia Hall of Fame. King was voted Coach of the Year by the Black Coaches Sports Magazine and led the Firebirds to the NCAA tournament with a 20-6 overall record.

King comes to Smithfield with over 18 years of coaching experience, including 11 at the Division I level. Most recently prior to her time at Bryant, she spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northeastern University (2012-14).

“We are very fortunate to be able to bring someone into our program with so much experience, both as a head coach and as an assistant at the Division I level,” said head coach Mary Burke. “Her familiarity as a former teammate [of mine] and her vast knowledge of the game will be great assets to our program.”

While with the Huskies, King served as the program’s defensive coordinator, helping improve the team’s defense, as well as guiding the Huskies to their most wins in the CAA era (17), most conference wins (10), and highest-ever finish in the CAA (fifth) in 2012-13.

Prior to her time at Northeastern, King served as an assistant on the women’s basketball staffs at Appalachian State (2006-09) and American (2004-06).

King also has a number of years of head coaching experience under her belt, spending time as the front runner at Lock Haven University (2002-04), Fresno State (1998-02), Coppin State (1997-98), and the University of the District of Columbia (1992-97). While in Fresno, King recruited and helped produce five All-WAC student-athletes, including the 2001 WAC Co-Freshman of the Year, Aritta Lane. King was the first black head coach hired in Fresno States history.

In addition to her wealth of collegiate coaching experience, King also served as the Tournament Coordinator for The National Title IX Conference (2010-12) and was an assistant coach for the Silver Medal-winning USA Basketball Team at the 1999 World University Games.

As a player at Providence College and former teammate of Coach Burke, King spent four years as a standout for the Friar from 1982-86, and was inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 2008.

King closed her PC career as the program's all-time leading rebounder with 1,205 boards and is one of just three players in program history to record 1,000-career points and 1,000-career rebounds. During her time in Providence, she earned All-Big East First Team honors in 1985-86, All-Big East Second Team recognition in 1984-85, Big East All-Tournament honors (1986) and was a 1985 and 86' KODAK District I All-American, and earned the honor of Providence College Athlete of the Year in 1986. King also helped lead her team to the NCAA Tournament in the 1984-85 season. King averaged 13.5 ppg and 10.7 rpg in her career as a Friar and posted a record of 81-33 as a player. Holds the PC record for most rebounds in a game (22 vs. Pitt), and the most rebounds during a season (398 in the 1984-85 season). King also played professionally for El Masnou Club in Barcelona, Spain.

King, a 1986 graduate from Providence College as a marketing major, earned her MBA, with a concentration in finance, from American University in 1989.

King is a member of the St. Anthony High School Hall of Fame. In High School, King was the first player to record 1,000 career points and rebounds. She averaged 14 ppg and 12.3 rpg during her career.
