Longwood tops Bryant, 13-7

FARMVILLE, Va. – Junior Caitlin Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) matched her career-high of four goals and an assist, but it wasn't enough as the Bryant University women's lacrosse team fell to Longwood, 13-7, in the first game of Bryant's spring break trip in Virginia.

COACH ROCHE'S COMMENTS

"We allowed their offense to go on a couple of unanswered runs and our offense struggled to produce today," said head coach Brianna Roche. "We'll use this as a learning experience and motivation to get better in preparation for VCU."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Longwood started the game off on a 5-0 scoring run before Caitlin Bolen took advantage of a man-up free position opportunity to break the Lancer's scoring streak.
  • The Lancers went on to get two more before the end of the half but was broken up by another Caitlin Bolen goal, assisted by Skylar Simmonds (Jupiter, Fla.). The Bulldogs concluded the first half with a five-goal deficit as the Lancers led, 7-2.
  • Just 30 seconds into the second half, junior Natalie Langella (Northport, N.Y.) netted an unassisted goal before the Lancers responded with three-straight, 10-3.
  • Caitlin Bolen took part in back-to-back goals at the 22-minute mark when she found the pocket of Alexa Weber (South Windsor, Conn.) before netting her third goal of the game to cut the Lancer's lead in half, 10-5.
  • Longwood responded with two-straight with ten minutes to go in the game.
  • Simmonds picked up her second assist of the day as Cassidy Burns (Massapequa, N.Y.) capitalized off the pass from the rookie.
  • The Lancers took advantage of a free position for their final goal of the game before Weber assisted a tally from Caitlin Bolen to conclude the game, 13-7, in Longwood's favor.

  • Caitlin Bolen led with four goals on the day off six shots that were all on target. Bolen finished the game with one groundball and one assist, totaling for five points.
  • Weber, Langella, and Burns each contributed one goal apiece.
  • Simmonds led the Black and Gold with two assists.
  • Both Megan McCarthy (Northampton, Mass.) and Devon Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) posted five draw controls.

GAME NOTES

  • C. Bolen tied her career-high of four goals and one assist, which she posted in the first game of the season against Quinnipiac.
  • Kapoosuzian posted a career-best of four ground balls as well as tying her season-high of 11 saves.
  • Simmond's two assists mark a career-best.
  • The Bulldogs drop their first-ever meeting with the Lancers. Longwood now holds the all-time series record, 1-0.
