Bryant rallies past Saint Francis, 14-12

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's lacrosse team rallied in the second half in its come-from-behind victory over Saint Francis, 14-12, on Saturday afternoon.

"We were able to put together a full game today. We overcame a first-half deficit and the team showed a lot of character in the successful second-half comeback. This will give us momentum going into our next week of practice in preparation for Mount."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Red Flash got off to an early start when they jumped to a 3-1 lead within the first six minutes.
  • Shea Farrell found the stick of Skylar Simmonds who netted her second-straight goal for the Black and Gold to pull within one, 3-2.
  • Saint Francis netted back-to-back goals, but the Bulldogs answered when Gabriella Henry caused a Saint Francis turnover and passed it to Farrell. Farrell took the ball the full length of the field and sent a rocket into the back of the net, 5-3.
  • Amanda Heidt capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the Red Flash and netted a free position shot.
  • Caitlin Bolen sparked a three-goal run for the Bulldogs to tie the game at six-all, but the Red Flash squeaked out a buzzer-beater to take a one-goal lead at the end of the first half, 7-6.
  • Saint Francis opened the second half with two goals before Bryant erupted with six-straight from five different Bulldogs including, Margaret Adams, Chamberlaine Bell, Alexa Weber (x2), Devon Bolen, and Megan McCarthy.
  • In the span of about 90 seconds, Saint Francis took off on a three-goal run to tie the game, 12-12, with 1:50 remaining in the game.
  • Simmonds found Devon Bolen cutting towards the net for the game-winning goal with exactly one minute remaining.
  • Emma Lindquist scored the final goal to ice the game at the 28-second mark.

STATS/GAME NOTES

  • Simmonds led the Bryant offense with five points (three goals, two assists). She also fired 12 shots and put seven on target. The sophomore also led the team with four groundballs and four caused turnovers.
  • Devon Bolen posted a season-best three goals.
  • Junior Cassidy Burns tallied two assists.
  • Henry matched Simmonds with four caused turnovers and she added two groundballs.
  • Weber posted two goals.
  • McCarthy, Adams, and Devon Bolen each tallied four draw controls. The mark is a career-high for Adams.
  • Farrell netted her second career goal and scooped three groundballs and tallied one draw control.
  • Bell's posted multiple firsts in today's game including her first career goal, assist, and one groundball.
  • Sam Ciancio picked up the win in goal today as she advances to 1-3 on the year. She played the final 49 minutes and made four saves.
  • The Bulldogs outshot Saint Francis by a wide margin, 41-26. Bryant also controlled the draw, 15-11.
  • Bryant remains undefeated against the Red Flash as they grow to 12-0 all-time.
