Bulldogs Bear Down For Season Opener at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team will make the short trip south to Providence to take on Brown in their season opener this weekend, with game time set for high noon. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2021 season that saw them go 7-5 in league play and advance to the NEC semifinals.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Cassidy Burns and Megan McCarthy both received preseason honors from the media. Burns was named Inside Lacrosse's NEC offensive player of the year while McCarthy was named All-New England by the New England Lacrosse Journal

  • Burns is also on the verge of a career milestone. With five more points, she will eclipse 100 in her career between Bryant and Manhattan College.

  • The Bulldogs return six All-NEC performers from last season. Burns, McCarthy, Skylar Simmonds, Chamberlaine Bell, and Kenna Kaut all received recognition in 2021, with McCarthy earning first-team honors.

Scouting the Bears

  • Brown was picked fifth in the Ivy League preseason poll. The Bears did not play in 2021 due to the Ivy League's COVID policies. They went 4-3 in the abbreviated 2020 season, and were 8-7 (4-3 Ivy) in their last full season in 2019.

  • Player to Watch: Senior attack/midfielder Sophia DeRosa is the Bears' leading returning scorer. She was second on the team with 18 points (15 goals, 3 assists) in 2020.

  • Brown has won 10 of the 12 meetings between the two teams. Bryant's last win was a 14-13 triumph on 3/6/19 in Providence.
