Kaut, Simmonds, Bell Lead Bulldogs to Second Straight Win

WORCESTER, MA- The Bryant women's lacrosse team staged a late comeback to defeat Holy Cross in Worcester, 15-14. Skylar Simmonds hit the goal with two minutes left to give the Bulldgos the lead. Kenna Kaut led the Bulldogs with four goals while Chamberlaine Bell had two goals and four assists.

Coach Roche's Comments: "This was a good team win. Our team battled for 60 minutes and displayed both physical and mental toughness out there. I'm encouraged by our team's hard work, positive attitude, and level of competitiveness. We will continue to learn, build, and prepare so we are ready for our next opponent."

How it Happened

Q1: The Bulldogs responded to an early Crusaders goal with four straight of their own, including the first of the season for Cassidy Burns. Holy Cross was able to come back and tie the game at four before the end of the quarter.

Q2: Both teams continued to trade goals in the second, with the Crusaders outscoring Bryant by one. Margaret Adams' first goal of the season sent the Bulldogs into the halftime break on a high note.

Q3: The Bulldogs used a 3-0 run in the third to briefly take the lead, before Holy Cross scored two to take it back. Bell and Kaut each scored their second goals of the game in the period for Bryant.

Q4: Each team scored a pair of goals in the opening minutes of the fourth before three straight Bryant goals gave them a 14-13 advantage. A Crusaders goal tied the score before Skylar Simmonds fired one into the net to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Burns' opening goal gave her 100 points in her collegiate career between Manhattan and Bryant. She also an early season high four assists in the game.

  • Kenna Kaut's four goals are also a season high, and give her ten on the season. She has scored at least three goals in each game this season.

  • Skylar Simmonds' three goals give her a team high twelve on the season. She leads the NEC with 4.0 goals per game. 

  • Chamberlaine Bell led the Bulldogs with six total points (2 G, 4 A). Her six points doubled her season total from the first two games.

The Bulldogs will continue their season opening road trip on Wednesday afternoon at Quinnipiac.
