Kaut, Simmonds Lead Bulldogs to Big Win Over SHU

FAIRFIELD, CT- Led by a combined seven goals from Kenna Kaut and Skylar Simmonds, the Bryant women's lacrosse team defeated Sacred Heart 15-5 on Wednesday. The ten point win is the Bulldogs' second largest margin of victory this season and moves them to 2-0 in the NEC.

How it Happened

Q1: Bryant grabbed the lead right away in the first quarter, scoring on a free position goal from Kenna Kaut. They were able to extend their lead to four before conceding the first Pioneer goal nearly eleven minutes into the game. Simmonds, Kaut, and Cassidy Burns each had a pair of points in the period.

Q2: The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the second quarter, allowing only one SHU goal on five shots, as they added five more goals of their own. Both Simmonds and Kaut recorded hat tricks before the halftime break, both contributing to a 3-0 run in less than three minutes of game time to end the half.

Q3: Stout defense continued in the third period for Bryant, as they forced Sacred Heart into four turnovers while allowing only four shots. The Bulldogs' offense in the quarter came courtesy of Peyton Woodward and Amelia Piercy, who both scored in the opening six minutes of the half.

Q4: The Bulldogs only scored twice again in the fourth, as Woodward and Emily Diaz each found the net. On the defensive side, Bryant forced four more turnovers while allowing just one Pioneer goal on three shots. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Kenna Kaut and Skylar Simmonds combined to score seven goals, the fifth time they've hit that mark in seven games. They are two of only three players in the conference to average a hat trick this season.

  • Emily Oliver set a career high with three total points, scoring one goal and assisting on two others. She also scooped a pair of ground balls and caused two SHU turnovers.

  • The Bulldogs allowed a season low five goals in the game. Sam Centofante anchored the defense, saving nine of the fourteen shots that came her way, and setting a new career best 64% save percentage.
