Burns Breaks Assist Record in Loss to Vermont

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team saw it's seven game win streak snapped in a 17-13 loss to Vermont Saturday at Beirne Stadium. Kenna Kaut scored four goals for the Bulldogs and Cassidy Burns dished six assists. Burns broke the Bryant single season record for assists with her 42nd in the third period.

How It Happened

Q1: Bryant dominated the first period, outscoring the Catamounts 7-2. The Bulldogs scored each of the game's first five goals, including two each by Peyton Woodward and Margaret Adams. Vermont responded with two scores before Woodward found the net again for a first period hat trick. Kenna Kaut and Hanna Kumpf also scored for Bryant in the first.

Q2: The Bulldogs were held to just two goals in the second despite outshooting UVM 10-9. Emily Oliver and Kaut each scored for Bryant, who surrendered two late goals to make it a three point game going into the half.

Q3: The Catamounts took control in the third, converting on eight of ten shots to turn a three goal deficit into a three goal lead. Kaut and Emily Diaz scored for the Bulldogs, both assisted by Cassidy Burns, who tied and broke the single season assist record in the process.

Q4: Bryant reduced the UVM lead to one early in the fourth on goals by Kaut and Alexa Weber, before a 3-0 run by the Catamounts sealed the outcome. Kaut's goal gave her one in each period of the game.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Cassidy Burns finished the game with six assists and now has 13 dimes over her last two games. In addition to breaking the Bryant single season record, she is just five assists away from breaking the Bulldogs' career record for assists.

  • Kenna Kaut scored four goals for the sixth time this season, and her hat trick was her ninth. She has scored multiple goals in every game for Bryant this season and leads the NEC with 46 goals overall.

  • Peyton Woodward recorded her second career and second consecutive hat trick, scoring all three of her goals in the first period. She also had three goals against Merrimack on Wednesday and now has 15 scores on the season.
