Kanervo, Chambo sweep weekly NEC honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University swimming and diving freshmen Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) and Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards that were announced on Tuesday.

Kanervo was named both the NEC Swimmer and Rookie of the Week for the second time this year, while Chambo picked up diver of the week honors for the second-straight week. It is the third-straight week Kanervo has earned rookie of the week honors.

Swimming against Boston University and UConn, Kanervo won the 50 free and the 100 fly, posting the best times the NEC has seen this year. She won the 50 free with a time of 23.65 and the 100 fly with a time of 56.15.

Chambo finished fourth in the 3-meter with a score of 213.55 and seventh in the 1-meter with a score of 208.65.

In addition, Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) were named NEC Prime Performers.
