Bulldogs defeat UVM on Saturday
BURLINGTON, VT- The Bryant women's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Vermont with a score of 186-113. This is the first time in team history that the Bulldogs have defeated UVM at UVM.
Coach Keane's Comments
- "It was a great team win. Everyone showed up to swim fast, they fought hard to win each race. We were able to win 13 of the 16 events today because of the way each executed the races."
Notes and Notables
- Bryant dominated this meet and won 13 of the possible 16 events that took place.
- The Bulldogs came out with a fast start and placed first in the 200 medley relay. Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain), Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.), Elin Svard (Falun, Sweden), andAlexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla) finished with a time of 1:48.61.
- The Black and Gold placed third in the same event. Lindsey Choate (Upper St. Clair, Pa.), Heather Wong (Ramsey N.J.), Domencia Alcala (Cancun, Mexico), and Alyvia Beaudion (Cypress, Texas) completed with a time of 1:50.85.
- In the 1000 freestyle Bryant took two spots in the top three, with Samantha Grenon (Cheshire, Conn.) placing first (10:45.88) and Kelly Tiernan (Hartford, Conn.) placing second (10:51.99).
- The Bulldogs continued the streak of placing twice with a first and third finish in the 200 freestyle. Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) placed first (1:54.72) and Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) placed third (1:57.79).
- Scifo won twice in the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 58.85 and 2:07.01 respectively. Choate placed third in the 200 (1:00.71).
- Bryant had a clean sweep in the 100 breaststroke, with Wong (1:08.20) placing first, Canavan (1:08.94) placing second, and Eliza Brant (Hauppage, N.Y.) placing third with a time of 1:10.36.
- The Black and Gold had another star with Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) winning twice in the 50 free (23.94) and the 100 butterfly (57.39).
- Rivera had a great day with wins in the 100 freestyle (53:09) and the 200 individual medley (2:09.87). She also placed second in the 50 freestyle (24.16).
- The Bulldogs had another first and second place finish by Wong (2:26.35) and Canavan (2:28.69) in the 200 breaststroke.
- In diving Katelyn Kirves (New Port Richly, Fla) had two second place finishes, with scores of 199.33 and 200.77. Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished third in the one-meter dive with a score of 194.93.
- The Bulldogs didn't let up with another 1-3 finish in the 500 freestyle by DaFlores (5:12.89), Grenon (5:14.37), and Doruska (5:15.10).
- Grenon would add another second place finish to her meet in the 200 IM (2:13.69).
- Bryant finished the meet in style with a first and third place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Kanervo, Canavan, Doruska, and Scifo placed first (3:35.49). Beaudion,Laurel Carey (Madison, N.J.), Julia Larson (Wauwatosa, Wis.), and DiFiore placed third (3:45.57).
