Rivera and Kanervo shine at Day 1 of the Gompei Invitationals

WORCESTER, MA – Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) set meet records at the Gompei Invitational.

Notes and Notables

• The Bulldogs started strong with a win and a meet record in the mixed 200 medley relay. Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands), FuKang Wong (Johor, Malaysia), Elin Svärd (Falun, Sweden), and Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished with a time of 1:39.39.
• The Bulldogs continued their momentum with a first and second place finish in the 200 individual medley.  Rivera placed first (2:04.71) and set a meet record. Svärd finished second with a time of 2:07.69.
• The Black and Gold placed twice again and set another meet record in the 50 freestyle.  Kanervo finished first (23.37) and set a meet record.  Fellow freshman Laurel Carey (Madison N.J.) finished second with a time of 24.13.
• The Bulldogs didn't stop there with Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) placing first (17:04.81) and setting a Bryant record in the 1650 freestyle.
• Bryant continued placing with Heather Wong finishing second (2:22.49) in the 200 Breaststroke.
• Rivera and Svärd finished back to back again in the 100 butterfly with Rivera placing first (55.85) and Svärd finishing second (55.98).
• In diving, Kyrian Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) shined with a first place finish in the three-meter dive (432.40).
• The Black and Gold continued winning, setting another meet record in the 200 medley. Alania Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain), Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland R.I.), Carey, and Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) finished with a time of 1:44.47
• The Bulldogs finished the meet with a first place victory in the 800 freestyle relay completed by Doruska, DiFiore, Rivera, and Scifo (7:36.44).
