Bulldogs defeat Rider on Senior Day

Smithfield, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team defeated Rider by a score of 159-122 on senior day in the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

"It's never easy swimming two meets in two days but they stayed tough and fought hard. It was a great win for the women and a good opportunity for the men to prepare for what they have to compete with at MAACs"

 

Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs started the meet in great fashion with a first and second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain), Heather Wong (Ramsey, N.J.), Elin Svärd (Falun, Sweden), and Laurel Carey (Madison, N.J.) teamed up to win (1:48.94). The senior team of Lindsey Choate (Upper St. Clair Pa,), Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.), Domenica Alcala (Cancun, Mexico), and Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.) placed third (1:51.45).
  • The Black and Gold then had a 1-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with Alyssa Difiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) winning (10:40.41), Kelly Tiernan (Hartford, Conn.) placing second (10:57.33), and Claire Russell (Narperville, Ill.) placed third (11:08.61).
  • Bryant earned another victory in the 200 freestyle by Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) with a time of 1:55.25. Julia Larson (Wauwatosa, Wis.) finished third in the same event (2:00.92).
  • Senior Scifo won the 100 (59.70) and 200 backstroke (2:06.75). Fellow Bulldog Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished second in the 100 with a time of 59.71.
  • Wong and Canavan finished 1-2 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Wong had times of 1:07.32 and 2:28.18 and Canavan had times of 1:07.96 and 2:29.93.
  • Bryant finished second in the 200 butterfly with Sammi Grenon (Cheshire, Conn.) posting a time of 2:10.87.
  • The Bulldogs added another victory with Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) in the 50 freestyle (24.26). Carey placed third in the same event (25.15).
  • The Black and Gold had another 1-3 finish in the 100 freestyle from Rivera (52.64), Doruska (53.90), and Carey (54.90).
  • In diving Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished second in the one and three-meter dives with scores of 222.83 and 247.28. Gabby Ritzer (Sutton, Mass.) placed second in the one-meter dive (197.10).
  • Difiore won (5:11.88), Grenon earned second (5:18.79), and Meghan Donnelly (Sayville, N.Y.) earned third (5:30.47) in the 500 freestyle to finish the meet.
